Abstract

The global solar PV market demand has begun picking up on a monthly basis since April 2011. Of the global market, Germany becomes major growth driver instead of Italy. In the face of the slowdown in the European market, market demand in the United States, Japan, and China increases but yet to replace the dominant position of Europe. With a flux of new Taiwanese and Chinese companies entering the solar PV industry, the price decline of corresponding products has been a foregone conclusion in spite of the constant increase in shipment volume of the said products. This report briefly analyzes the global solar cell price development trends in 2010 and 2011, pointing out key development on both supply- and demand-end; profiles the development of Chinese first- and second-tier crystalline silicon material and wafer companies; the development of Taiwanese solar cell shipment volume, with breakdowns by production location, shipment destination, and by product mix, inclusive of Taiwanese solar manufacturer shipment ranking; analyzes some prime issues that merit a closer look.
